Wider Opportunities for Women was formed in the District of Columbia in 1964. Its early training programs focused on basic job skills for low-income women and included provisions for childcare. In 1990 WOW received federal funding to develop the National Employment Training (NET) Project and gained widespread recognition for its advocacy, leadership development, and technical training workshops, which were organized to meet the needs of trainees and employers.
